The proposed Poseidon Huntington Beach Desalination project is not a common sense solution to improve water supply. Large desalination plants like Poseidon use massive amounts of energy and emit tons of carbon into our atmosphere, which only worsens the very water supply issues we seek to improve. Conservation, water recycling, and stormwater capture are the common sense solutions that California needs for back-up water supply. Thank you for being part of the solution!
In Huntington Beach, Poseidon Water – a private company owned by foreign investors – is proposing a $1.4 billion desalination plant. The plant would require local ratepayers to buy 50 million gallons of water per day, whether they need it or not, at nearly four times the cost of currently available water supplies. Over the last 15 years, Poseidon has spent over $1.6 million lobbying for the project.
